Follow These 7 Tips to Winterize Your Car

Tip 1 | Plan ahead and get your vehicle fully serviced before you go. The last thing you need 2 hours into your 6 hour drive is a call to your road-side assistance or your in-laws. Preparation for Mother Nature can save you hours and dollars. Check out 94 Nissan’s service specials here.

Tip 2 | Don’t get caught in a rain, snow, or ice-storm with run-down wiper blades. The estimated life-span for an average set of wiper blades is about a year, and in harsh, snowy climates it can be even less. Check your wiper blades before the trip, and if you see they’re worn, don’t hesitate to come in & order from us.

Tip 3 | Check that battery! Make sure your Nissan’s battery gets tested before the temperature drops. Staying proactive on battery health can keep you from cold-weather-inspired headaches.

Tip 4 | Make sure you’re topped off on antifreeze and keep your engine protected – especially in the Chicago cold.

Tip 5 | Inspect your belts and hoses. Cool and damp conditions, especially those lower than 0°F, can mean extra fatigue and cause chirping if there’s any misalignment with your belts. Listen carefully for what your car wants, and don’t hesitate to bring her around 94Nissan for some help.

Tip 6 | Don’t let your trip get deflated from low tire pressure or bad traction. For every 10 degree drop in outside tire pressure, your tire’s pressure can drop about 1 psi. Check your tire treads, and if in doubt, swing by 94Nissan and we can help make sure you’re outfitted properly for the winter.

Tip 7 | Bad brakes can slow you down. Make sure you can handle icy roads and winter terrain and get your brakes checked before you embark on your journey.
